New Ozpetek, Scamarcio in Venice, We ❤️ Seattle, & Happy Birthday Tilda Swinton!
Salve ragazzi,
Before I forget, we need to keep our eyes open for Alice Rohrwacher’s ‘La Chimera,’ coming soon, according to USA distributor Neon.
La Chimera follows the travails of Arthur, an Englishman in Italy with a preternatural ability to connect with the land. The film premiered at the Cannes Film Festival and stars Isabella Rossellini and Josh O'Connor.
What I watched last night: Nuovo Olimpo
New to Netflix, Nuovo Olimpo director Ferzan Ozpetek’s “storia vera,” true story:
“It’s a true story that happened to me in the 1970s, and I’ve wanted to use it as an idea for a film for a long time,” said Ozpetek. He says that though it’s similar to his film Le Fate Ignorante (His Secret Life), which deals with two men having a secret love affair and “a wife in the middle,” it is the only thing the two films have in common.
“Every story is always a little biographical, but I’ve never wanted to be so direct,” said Ozpetek,” who had been thinking about this project for eight years. It shows; the emotions feel very personal. It’s a sexy love story, but it also tells of the nostalgic love Ozpetek has for his adopted city, Rome, and his love of cinema. Y’all know I’m a big fan of Ferzan Ozpetek movies, and Nuovo Olimpo is as good as they get.

Two Great Reasons to Watch A Haunting In Venice: Venice, and Riccardo Scamarcio
In this spooky, fun whodunnit, Riccardo Scamarcio is Vitale Portfoglio, Poirot’s intimidating bodyguard, who accompanies him to the fateful séance.
Retired and living in self-imposed exile, Poirot (Kenneth Branagh) reluctantly attends a seance at a decaying, haunted palazzo one stormy night in Venice. There’s a murder (or two) and a big, dark, and gloomy game of an Italian Clue.

Tanti Auguri to Italian Cinema’s BFF Tilda Swinton 🎂
When Tilda Swinton first met Italian director Luca Guadagnino 25 years ago, they discussed their mutual obsession with Dario Argento’s 1977 Suspiria during their first conversation. Little did Swinton or Guadagnino know at the time they would reimagine the horror classic over two decades later and begin a long friendship and working relationship. They’ve worked together so many times Tilda should be considered an honorary Italian film star.
