Buon Giorno Del Ringraziamento!
Salve ragazzi,
New York at the Movies
Casa Italiana Zerilli-Marimò New York University has something pretty cool that you might want to know about happening next week, Tuesday, November 30, 7:00 pm.
Antonio Monda, Director of the Rome Film Festival, and the chief film critic for The New York Times, A. O. Scott will discuss movies, and specifically movies made in New York City. While this has nothing to do with Italian movies, I’ll still be watching, because I am a huge fan Antonio Monda, who has done so much for the Italian film industry and there may be no one in the world who knows more about movies than A. O. Scott.
The event will be streamed live on their Facebook Page, YouTube Live, or website. Follow it live in order to submit your questions and have them answered in real-time.
“From The Godfather to When Harry Meets Sally, from Manhattan to Breakfast at Tiffany's, not to mention Taxi Driver, Ghostbusters, King Kong, and Carlito's Way: a journey across the Big Apple through the works that brought it to the silver screen and celebrated its legacy.”
Remember: All events and activities of Casa Italiana are supported through the Baroness Zerilli-Marimò Endowment Fund and are free and open to the general public unless otherwise stated. If you donate to Casa Italiana you will become a member and get access to lots of other members only events.
New To Netflix: Yara
Once again, I am recommending something that is not exactly a “feel good” family film, but the true story of 13-year-old Yara Gambirasio who went missing on her way home from the gym is a better than average crime story.
Isabella Ragonese, one of Italy’s most talented actresses plays Letizia Ruggeri the detective who becomes obsessed with finding her killer. Isabella makes an otherwise ordinary murder mystery come alive, and the actual footage of searches and crime scenes is very well done.
For those who love Italian cooking and language…
My daughter told me about a fun bilingual podcast called The Ugly Ducklings of Italian Cuisine, or Scarrafoni in Cucina in Italian.
It’s all about the “not so Instagrammable” Italian dishes and regional delicacies that don’t often leave the area of Italy they’re from, but are beloved by the locals. For example, one covers a maggot-filled cheese (Casu Martzu) and another looks at a dessert made of blood (Sanguinaccio).
All six episodes will be released in Italian and English (in the same feed) and are hosted by SBS Italian producer Massimiliano Gugole, who will be joined by some of Italy’s most well-known chefs.

I just exchanged messages with the director of Gatta Cenerentola and we’re making our plans for our Zoom Q&A. I need at least a couple of dozen of you to sign up or I don’t think it will be worth his time, so please consider participating! I will let you know the date and time when it’s set.
I hope everyone enjoyed the film! Let me know, 👍 or 👎!
Un bacione,
Cheri
